System Identification Prerequisites for El En 620 - Winter 1996
To take this course, you should have knowledge and understanding of
simple methods for identifying transfer functions of linear systems from
measurements of the system. You should be exposed to at least one of the
following methods:
- least-squares techniques (equivalent to linear regression for certain
types of systems); or
- gradient-based (also called ``hill-climbing'') or other optimization techniques.
Presentation of this material will follow that in the adaptive
filtering field; thus, some
good texts to read on these subjects are
- V.J. Mathews and S.C. Douglas, Adaptive Filters ,
to be published by Prentice-Hall, 1997 (currently available as class
notes in El En 617.)
- S. Haykin, Adaptive Filter Theory,
3rd Ed., Prentice-Hall, 1996.
